Jakob Máni Eiríksson Schimmleman was born into a musical family in the Spanish city of A Coruna, both of his parents being professional symphony orchestra musicians.

He started playing piano at age 6, then shortly after switched to the violin, which he pursued until finally finding his love for the viola in his early twenties while studying in his father’s country of origin, Iceland. During his time in Reykjavik Jakob first studied violin under the instruction of Auður Hafsteinsdóttir, and later Þórunn Marinosdottir for the viola.

He then moved to the Netherlands to pursue his viola studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague as part of Asdis Valdimarsdottir’s class. With his bachelor’s completed Jakob is currently pursuing a master’s degree in performance under Timur Yakubov.
